“Today I am delighted to know that the editing of the book of my memories has been completed. Now I’m sure that my memories will be part of the history of humankind, thanks to providing the living testimony of an upright defender of freedom who suffered that continuous streak of unthinkable situations between 1936 and 1945, and even a bit more. The deportation with all its horror and inhumanity, marked me forever, for the rest of my life; my youth was shredded when I was first imprisoned at the age of 21, and when I was, shortly afterwards, sent to the Mauthausen camp.

Since then, the horror has always returned at night, with my dreams disrupted by the events from the past, anchored atrociously to the memories of that long, long night…”
